Amy Oulton

Amy is a disability rights advocate campaigning to change the way society understands disability.

Amy Oulton is a Tedx speaker with a commitment to transforming the discourse surrounding disability, and she brings this same dedication to this conference unveiling the realities of neurodiversity, with a special focus on ADHD. Woven into her narrative are personal experiences including a late ADHD diagnosis, creating a unique tapestry of humour, frustration, and missed opportunities that offer a refreshing perspective on the topic.

This engaging talk provides an overview of ADHD, delving into key facts about the condition, with a particular focus on women and its relevance to the lives of adults. Amy explores the link between ADHD, autism, dyslexia and others, offering an introduction to the broader concept of neurodiversity.

Addressing the surge in discussions around neurodiversity on platforms like TikTok, Amy dismantles the misconception that ADHD and Autism are mere trends, explaining the deeper reasons for rising rates of diagnosis and discourse. Amy also uncovers the myriad benefits of neurodivergence, both on a personal level and within the context of business environments. She illustrates how the social model of disability extends to neurodivergence, emphasising the barriers individuals face and offering practical considerations for organisations to become more neurodivergent-friendly.

About Amy Oulton
Amy's unique perspective is rooted in her experiences spanning physical disabilities, ambulatory wheelchair use, mental health conditions, and neurodivergence, as well as her intersectional identity as an LGBTQ+ woman. She is a Tedx speaker, has written articles for websites such as The Debrief and Buzzfeed and has brought the topic of inclusion to life through presentations and workshops at corporations and organisations such as Meta, BP, Islington and Camden Public Health, and The Sunday Assembly.
